Yes, there *are* standardised and limited vocabularies and tables of authorities. But cross refs really are the Majickal Sauce.

DDS and LoCCS were begun a century and a half ago. Much has changed, and as a consequence bothsystems have a considerable change management process.

@jonne I do find the works-to-tags count interesting though: 5m works, 2.7m tags

@dredmorbius I didn't notice that. That's quite a lot of metadata.
